Periyar Nagar full-time public library at Chennai hosted awareness talk to commemorate Rare Disease Day. Students and public participated in the event which also coincided with India's National Science Day. The latter observance is to celebrate Indian science in general and also specifically the discovery of Raman Scattering (Raman Effect). 

Mr. Satish Srinivas descriping the perils and hopes of Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood, 

a rare disease that affects 1 in 1 million population.

Dr. Duraiswamy Navaneetham gave a gist about a rare bone disorder Osteogenesis Imperfecta. 

His talk also included other science topics to commemorate National Science Day.

The discussions in the event included Indian green revolution and how it fulfilled Indian food grain demand, how genetic modification is done in crops, general rare disease scenario, details of Alternating hemiplegia of Childhood & Osteogensis Imperfecta, and locating a few planets, stars and constellations in the night sky.

The talk also had a brief discussion on Raman Effect, discovered by Sir C.V. Raman in 1928.
